Massage (oil massage) plays a central role in Ayurvedic beauty and treatments, stimulating circulation and promoting elimination of toxic elements. Massage helps beautify the skin and rejuvenate the body.  Oils are highly priced in Ayurveda and are considered essential to the healthy functioning of the body.

Ingredients
Almond Oil x 6 tbspns
Lavender essential oil x 25 drops
Rosemary essential oil x 10 drops
Peppermint essential oil x 5 drops

Method
Mix the oils well. Bottle in an airtight jar.

Use a little oil in the palm of your hand and rub your palms together. Vary your touch as you massage by moving your hands lightly over the skin. Use finger tips for static pressure and  the softer pads of the fingers for kneading and circling movements. Avoid putting pressure on any joints. Any pressure should be upwards towards the head. Repeat from time to time as the oil wears off your hands.

Massage oil should be washed off after a treatment, so any waste toxic materials that the oil has helped pull out do not re-enter the body.

Its helpful to do a quick massage everyday before you bathe. Keeping a bottle of massage oil in the shower/bath is handy. Even a quick 2 minute daily massage can do wonders for detoxing, beautifying, and rejuvenating the body.

Treat yourself atleast once a month to a full body massage.

Dandruff? A simple yet potent solution.

Adaara. Nurturing the body, mind, and spirit.
Conscious Living Lifestyle

Dandruff is so common now that many of us use an anti-dandruff shampoo in our daily routine without giving much thought to the harmful chemicals we are exposing to our scalp. Skip the anti-dandruff shampoo and switch to a regular mild one. Here is a simple, harmless, yet potent combination of herbs that relieves and clears up dandruff.

Ingredients:
Use dry powdered form of each of the following for ease of use.

Tulsi (Holy Basil) x 1 tbspn
Brahmi x 1 tbspn
Neem x 1 tbspn
Fenugreek Seeds (Methi seeds) x 1 tbspn
Fresh Lemon juice x 1/2 a lemon

Method:

Mix the dry powders. Mix 1 – 2 tablespoons (depending on your hair length) of the powdered blend with just enough lemon to make a smooth paste. If you have mixed extra powder, store away the dry blend in an airtight jar for the next use.

If you have cuts or scabs caused by dandruff or other hair problems do not use lemon. Use plain water instead. Apply to the roots/scalp only covering the whole head. You do not need to cover the hair, just the scalp. Leave on for about 15 to 20 minutes. If you are short on time, leaving it on for just 5 minutes will also show positive results. Rinse, shampoo, and condition as normal.

Neem leaves contain sufficient quantity of natural Calcium, Proteins, Iron, and Vitamin A. Neem is one of the most useful ingredients to help cure chronic skin conditions like dandruff. It is also a natural antiseptic, so if there are any cuts or scabs it acts as a wonderful medicinal healer for the scalp. Neem controls the natural oil balance of the scalp while it helps clear dandruff.

Brahmi not only controls dandruff, it strengthens hair roots and helps make hair dark, dense, and lustrous while helping prevent premature graying of hair.

Tulsi protects and moisturizers the scalp while helping clear dandruff. It is also a wonderful natural antibacterial.

Fenugreek (methi seeds) is a wonderful agent to help remove impurities from the scalp that cause dandruff in the first place. It helps purify the skin while naturally conditioning it.

Lemon when used helps prevent dandruff from returning and also adds a wonderful shine to the hair.

Fennel seeds

Additionally add according to your skin type:
Oily skin: rosemary or licorice root
Dry skin: chamomile or bay leaf
Blemished skin: lemongrass or dandelion root

Use as many of the base herb/spices as you can. Additionally add the herb by your skin type. Boil about 5 cups of water in a non-metallic pan. Add two handfuls of the herbs/spice blend. Cover and let boil for a few minutes. Turn off the heat and let it cool down to a comfortable temperature.

Drape a towel over your head and face to enjoy this heavenly facial sauna! Alternately you can soak several wash cloths in this hot herb-infused water, wring out  and place on your face for about 5 minutes. Replace the cloths as they cool down.
